Guide to Inpatient Care

Scheduling admission

Your admission will be determined and scheduled by a doctor based on your diagnosis. In principle, patients are admitted at 10:00 a.m. Patients scheduled for a surgery or test on the day of admission may be asked to arrive a little earlier than 10:00 a.m.

Getting admitted

Come to the Admission Desk on the first floor at the designated date/time with the following items.
Admission Application FormThe form you received when you made your appointment for admission.
Health insurance card/certificate
Medical certificatesNeeded only if you have any.
Patient ID Card
SealSignatures are also acceptable.
Current medicationsBring medications you are currently taking, along with documents containing information on them.

Items needed during your hospital stay

Please bring the following items for your hospital stay.

  • Chopsticks can be supplied by the hospital, but you are free to bring your own.
  • For patients undergoing surgery, a nurse will provide information on additional needs after admission.
  • Daily necessities needed during your hospital stay can be purchased at the store.

Rules for inpatients

  1. If you have any concerns or inquiries about medical or nursing care, please consult a doctor or a nurse.
  2. Do not bring any valuables or large amounts of cash with you.
    Make sure that your belongings including cash are kept safe under your own responsibility.
  3. Remove all accessories including rings, pierced earrings and necklaces, as well as nail polish, gel nails and nail extensions.
  4. Coin-operated laundry machines are available within the hospital.
  5. Televisions in patient rooms and telephones in private patient rooms can be used with a prepaid TV card.

  6. When watching television or listening to the radio, use earphones, which can be purchased at the store.
  7. For safety management reasons, the types of electrical appliances that can be brought in to patient rooms are restricted.
  8. Mobile phones should be used in designated areas. → See “Using Telephones.”
  9. To protect the privacy of patients, we do not respond to inquiries about patients over the phone, or redirect outside calls to patients. However, we will inform patients of calls received.
  10. Lights-out time is 22:00. The use of lights after 22:00 should be kept to a minimum.
  11. Smoking is prohibited throughout the entire hospital premises including in private patient rooms.
  12. In allocating patient rooms, patients’ medical conditions are prioritized over other factors.
    Patients may be asked to change rooms if circumstances require. Your understanding and cooperation in this regard is highly appreciated.

Daytime/Overnight outings

Written permission is required for daytime and overnight outings. Please consult your doctor or nurse in advance.

Families accompanying patients

Nursing care is provided by nurses. Family members may accompany a patient on condition that the family wishes to do so due to the patient’s condition, and the doctor recognizes the necessity to do so. Please consult a doctor or a nurse.

Preventing theft / Emergency exits

  • Safety box
    Bedside cabinets are equipped with a small safety box for keeping your wallet and other small articles. When leaving your room, lock your safety box and keep the key safe. (If you lose the key, you will need to bear the cost of replacement.)
  • Locker
    You are provided with a locker for storing your clothes and bags. Use a padlock if you need to lock your locker. Padlocks can be purchased at the store on the first floor.
  • Emergency exits
    Each floor is equipped with an emergency exit. In the event of an emergency, follow the instructions of hospital staff members.

Patient rooms

Inpatients are basically accommodated in four-patient rooms. Each bed is equipped with a bedside cabinet, a prepaid-card-operated television set, and a locker.

Using telephones

  • Private rooms are equipped with a telephone, which can be used with a prepaid TV card.
  • Public telephones are located in the Day Room in each ward, as well as on the first floor and in the Emergency Outpatient Care. Public telephones can be used with a telephone card.
  • For phone calls on smartphones, the areas indicated below should be used.
  • Smartphones should be used in silent mode in the designated areas indicated below. In areas other than the designated areas, they should be powered off.

Laundry: 100 yen; Tumble dryer: 100 yen per 30 minutes (both including tax)

Discharge

In principle, patients are discharged at 10:00 a.m. except in special circumstances. The discharge date is determined by physicians based on diagnostic reasons. Please follow their instructions.

Payment

Payment can be made by cash or credit card, including during outside hours and on holidays.

Credit cards are accepted for payment of all expenses incurred at the hospital, including fees for inpatient and outpatient care.

Visitors

When visiting an inpatient, go to the Visitors’ Reception at the main entrance and enter your name and other information in the visitors’ log. You will be given a visitor’s badge. Visiting hours are as indicated below.

Note: Visits to the ICU and HCU may be restricted due to treatment requirements. Please check with a nurse in advance.
  • In the interests of preventing accidents and infections, refrain from bringing children if possible.
  • Refrain from visiting in large groups or over long hours if possible in consideration for other patients.
  • When eating or drinking, use the Day Room of each ward or the cafeteria on the fifth floor.
  • Phone calls should be made in designated areas.
  • Please be advised that we may decline visitors in accordance with patients’ wishes.
  • People feeling unwell with a fever, coughs, runny nose, diarrhea, and/or other symptoms should refrain from visiting.
