Komagome Hospital Program
The program at Komagome Hospital focuses on oncology, infectious diseases and palliative care. Trainees are actively involved in patient care from the initial consultation, collaborating with other specialists and departments to manage cases from diagnosis to treatment and palliative care. In complex cases, trainees acquire the ability to develop optimal solutions through multidisciplinary discussions. There is also extensive experience with rare diseases, contributing to the accumulation of J-OSLER cases. Our team has a general surgery division, allowing trainees to learn about acute abdomen and minor surgical procedures; it offers an academic environment despite being a community hospital. After completion of the program, trainees can design a training plan tailored to their future, building on a foundation in hospitalist or primary care careers whilst deepening their expertise in areas such as infectious diseases, oncology and palliative care.
Matsuzawa Hospital Program

Institute of Science Tokyo Hospital Program
The Department of General Medicine at Institute of Science Tokyo Hospital is characterized by a flexible training program that allows trainees to develop their careers by moving between the roles of family physician and hospitalist. At the university hospital, trainees collaborate with specialist departments to gain extensive experience ranging from acute conditions and challenging diagnostic cases to perioperative management. Dōzen Hospital and Dōzenkai Clinic Program

NTT Medical Center Tokyo Program
In our hospital's General Medicine program, you will develop a broad range of clinical skills while building international competence through exposure to diverse cases at a busy urban acute care hospital. A distinctive feature of our program is its comprehensive clinical training, spanning emergency medicine to international healthcare, including the care of patients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.Upon completion of the program, you will be well prepared to pursue a career as a general practitioner. In addition, the program provides a strong foundation for a variety of career paths, including international medicine, medical education, and other areas of academic or clinical practice. Toho University Omori Medical Center Program
At the Toho University Medical Center’s Center for General Medicine and Acute Care, you can gain a cross-disciplinary understanding of emergency medicine, general medicine and infectious diseases, dealing with the diverse range of cases typical of an urban university hospital. By providing continuous care for patients from the emergency room to inpatient wards, you will develop a broad range of clinical skills. We place great emphasis on diagnostic reasoning based on medical history and physical examination, as well as ‘Clinical Courage’—the commitment to thoroughly consider what is best for the patient. Aiming to balance the roles of a university hospital as both a research institution and a teaching hospital for beginners, we actively conduct research whilst devoting significant effort to education. Our goal is to train general practitioners who possess both clinical and research capabilities.
Tokyo Medical Center Program
The appeal of the Department of General Internal Medicine at Tokyo Medical Center lies in its ‘soft power’: the diversity of our supervising physicians and their passion for education. Our 11 supervising physicians hold specialist qualifications across a wide range of fields, including general internal medicine, infectious diseases, cardiology, haematology and family practice, and they provide guidance that draws on their respective areas of expertise, such as clinical reasoning, physical examination, journal club sessions and family medicine. In the 2024 academic year, we discharged 1,666 patients and cared for between 90 and 100 inpatients at any given time, providing an environment where you can learn deeply from an overwhelmingly diverse range of cases. Furthermore, as the Chair and Board Members of the Japanese Society for Humanitude are based here, it is possible to study the ‘Humanitude’ care methodology in depth. Our department celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2026. Keio University Hospital Program
Keio University’s Specialist Training program in General Medicine offers the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of both the advanced diagnostic techniques available at the university hospital and community & emergency care at affiliated facilities. Its most distinctive feature is the opportunity to simultaneously experience ‘approaches toward diagnosis in challenging cases’ and ‘interdisciplinary clinical research’. Upon completion, graduates have access to a wide range of career paths, including not only roles as hospitalist or family physician, but also as clinical researchers, educators, and opportunities for study abroad. Through a flexible career support system tailored to individual aspirations, we cultivate professionals who will lead the next generation of healthcare.
Kawakita Center for Family Medicine Program
The General Medicine and Family Medicine Specialist Training program at the Kawakita Center for Family Medicine, in collaboration with Kawakita General Hospital—which provides high-volume acute care—builds the clinical foundations essential for primary care through training in home visits, outpatient clinics and hospital wards. Furthermore, Suginami Ward, where the center is located, is an urban community with people from diverse backgrounds—of age, household structure, economic status and nationality—living together. This environment allows trainees to practically develop a comprehensive perspective and management skills of interprofessional collaboration. To date, we have trained 15 family medicine specialists, who are now active as general practitioners in various regions and at our hospital. We support trainees in their ‘path beyond residency’ across a variety of settings—such as clinics and hospital wards—where they can thrive as general practitioners!
Tokyo-Kita Medical Center Program
Our hospital is a 350-bed general hospital, and the Department of General Medicine is responsible for approximately 100 beds—accounting for 80% of internal medicine admissions. Our clinical practice places a strong emphasis on evidence-based medicine (EBM) and the application of family medicine principles. With a large number of residents in general practice and staff members, we offer an environment where colleagues of a similar age can learn and grow together. Upon completion of our General Medicine program, the vast majority of trainees remain with us to pursue certification as specialists in family medicine or hospital medicine. After obtaining their specialist qualifications, many go on to work as staff members involved in training at our hospital, or at hospitals and clinics within Japan Association for Development of Community Medicine(JADECOM), of which we are a member of. Itabashi Central General Hospital Program
The General Medicine program at Itabashi Central General Hospital trains generalist based on the ‘Extensivist’ model. In other words, we aim to develop doctors who not only provide acute care—including emergency and intensive care—but also gain experience in home care and community-based integrated care wards, enabling them to determine where each patient can receive the most appropriate medical treatment and care. Upon completion of the program, graduates go on to become hospitalist, family physician, or specialize in their respective fields. We hold an annual Homecoming Day, allowing us to continue growing together as colleagues throughout our careers.
Yamato Clinic Program
Have you heard of Community Integrated Care Wards? Through this program, you will have the opportunity to learn about healthcare practice within the context of everyday life whilst working at a home-visit clinic (Yamato Clinic) that supports daily living, and a Community Integrated Care Ward (Ouchinikaero Hospital) that bridges daily life and medical care. Whilst our greatest strength lies in the theory and practical training of Advance Care Planning (ACP), we also place a strong emphasis on developing individuals capable of managing organizational operations. We welcome those who wish to reflect on patients’ ways of life together, those seeking new challenges, and those keen to build a team with warm-hearted colleagues.
