Medical Treatment for Mental Patients with Physical Illnesses

Physical Complications Care for Psychiatric Patients

Patients with mental disorders are known to have a higher rate of prevalence of physical illnesses. Some outpatients and inpatients of general psychiatric hospitals develop severe physical illnesses. One of our priorities is to provide prompt and appropriate care including emergency care, both medically and mentally, for patients with physical illness who are difficult to treat at general hospitals due to mental symptoms such as agitation and poor rapport.

Tokyo Metropolitan Physical Complications Care Programme for Psychiatric Patients

As part of this programme, we accept out-of-hours patients who live in the community with severe physical complications twice per month( the second and fourth Wednesdays): a doctor, a surgeon and a laboratory technician are on shift and accept requests from Psychiatric Emergency Information Center.
As for the weekday daytime, we accept promptly inpatients at other psychiatric hospitals in Tokyo whose physical complications are difficult to handle.
After admission, doctors work closely with psychiatrists to treat the patients. Currently the following departments are available: internal medicine, neurology, surgery, orthopedics and neurosurgery.
Or you can contact the medical cooperation staff directly.
