Nephrology

Our department provides holistic and comprehensive medical care for patients with suffering kidney diseases and kidney dysfunction. All our staff members are committed to delivering care with a high level of expertise and responsibility. As a Kidney Center—comprising the Departments of Nephrology, Urology and Transplant Surgery—we diagnose and treat nephritis, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and acute and chronic renal failure, dialysis initiation and maintenance, management of complications, treatment of severe multiple organ failure, and living donor kidney transplants.
Our specialized outpatient clinic for IgA nephropathy, established in September 2008, actively performs tonsillectomy and steroid pulse therapy. We also manage cases of recurrent IgA nephropathy after kidney transplantation and cases of IgA nephropathy in dialysis patients awaiting transplantation. For patients with chronic kidney disease, we provide multidisciplinary care through our “Soramame Kidney Support Clinic.” For inpatient care, we collaborate with other departments to manage patients with nephritis, chronic kidney disease, dialysis dependence, and post-kidney transplantation conditions. Dialysis therapy is provided based on each patient’s individual needs. We also work closely with vascular surgeons to manage shunt-related complications. Since 2009, we have performed living-donor kidney transplantation approximately once per month. Donors are also followed long-term as chronic kidney disease patients to ensure their continued health and well-being.
