Department of Intensive Care

1. Medical Treatment Details and Features

　This department is specialized in treatment for pediatric patients, and at the same time, it is the largest pediatric intensive care unit (PCIU) in Japan featured by its medical treatments in close cooperation with our Critical Care Department.
　Approximately more than half of patients hospitalized annually in our department are patients in need of emergency hospitalization. For patients with acute dysfunction, not only intubation and artificial respiration, we also provide resuscitation, pursue ultimate respiration management including ECMO (extracorporeal cardiopulmonary support), and start intensive care in front of the hospital in cooperation with other relevant clinical departments. We also provide disaster medical care for the entire country including Tokyo. We will integrate these activities and continue simulation, education and research to improve the quality of each activity. 

2. Main target diseases

• Oversee various organ failures and serious disease condition
• Oversee perioperative care
• Special medical treatment

At our hospital, as a rule, except in the case of emergency cares at ER we only accept patients based on a referral appointment system.
